'More a national asset than an investor's paradise': financial management and the British Motor Corporation, 1952-68

This paper undertakes a comparative analysis of financial management in the British motor industry in the 1950s and 1960s. We question whether US ownership automatically implied greater financial control and immunity from capital market pressures and discuss whether the problems BMC/BMH (British Motor Corporation/British Motor Holdings) experienced were symptomatic of the absence of financial imperatives among British management at this time. Finally we widen the agenda to place our findings on financial management into a wider literature dealing more generally with the problems of managerial control and corporate governance within the motor vehicle industry in the 1950s and 1960s.     

关于推进我国现代流通体系建设的几点建议

商品流通体系是一个庞大的系统、复杂的过程,不仅直接关系到生产和生活,而且也关系国民经济各个部门的运行效率和效益。建立和完善我国商品流通体系是一个深化改革的过程,本文从十个方面对此进行论述,提出了构建具有中国特色、统一开放、畅通可控、机制有序商品流通体系的构想。     

我国锌期货市场功能发挥的实证研究

运用协整检验、Granger因果检验、向最误差修正模型、Garhade-silber模型、误差修正模型等对2007年6月11日到2008年9月18日上海期货交易所锌期货合约的价格发现功能和套期保值功能进行研究,结果表明:锌期货与现货价格存在双向引导关系,锌期货市场在价格发现功能中处于主导地位,锌期货价格发现功能良好.锌期货样本内和样本外套期保值绩效分别为0.50074044和0.43854111,样本内套期保值绩效优于样本外套期保值绩效.我国锌期货市场具有一定的套期保值功能,但套期保值功能并未得到充分发挥,2008年6月到2008年9月锌期货市场投机氛围严重.     

基于ANP方法的场外交易市场运行绩效综合评价——以美国、印度、英国和台湾地区为例的比较研究

发达国家和地区已经建立了与不同风险相适应的多层次场外交易市场和运作体系,如何对场外交易市场整体成熟程度和效率水平进行有效的评价和比较,既是投融资双方所关注的问题,同时对我国场外市场的建设和发展也有着重要的现实参考价值和借鉴意义。鉴于场外交易市场自身的特点,本文在给出场外交易市场运行绩效评价内涵的基础上,采用网络分析法进行场外交易市场的综合评价,并给出了关键市场指标及其权重,在此基础上对样本场外交易市场进行评价。最后,本文给出了对我国场外交易市场建设的启示和建议。     

The unsung impact of currency risk on the performance of international real property investment

The paper revisits the currency risk debate to ascertain the statistical significance of currency risk on the return of international real property investment, especially in a period of increased exchange rate volatility. After statistical analyses of the returns of a portfolio of office investments in seven Asia Pacific cities over the 1986 to 2007 period, it was found that currency risk had a statistically significant positive impact on the performance of the portfolio of office investments. This is confirmed by the results of stochastic dominance test. If the results of this study are verified by subsequent studies, and the past reliably presages the future, they would imply that investors holding portfolios of real property investments in the sample markets might not need to be unduly concerned with currency risk.     

Globalization and the connection of remote communities: A review of household effects and their biodiversity implications

The remote regions of the world provide refuge to a disproportionate amount of the Earth's biodiversity. As globalization continues, isolated human communities in these regions are increasingly connected to global market, migration, and technology networks. We review the diffuse literature on the household effects of changing market access, migration, and technology adoption in remote regions and implications for native biodiversity. Market access affects biodiversity in remote communities through changes in household economics and social networks. Migration, either to or from remote settlements, affects biodiversity through changes in population, remittances, human capital, and social networks. Finally, we consider effects due to production, public infrastructure, and information and communication technologies. There is much ambiguity surrounding these causal pathways, and thus we also examine the roles of various ecological, household, community, and institutional mediating factors in determining the impacts of global connection. Finally, we explore the limitations of our current knowledge and research practices and propose directions for future work to address key uncertainties in theory and evidence as well as weaknesses in methodological approaches. We recommend a broad and interdisciplinary mode of inquiry as the best means toward clarifying globalization's impacts on human settlements and the biodiversity harbored in the Earth's remaining remote regions.     

基于有效需求视角的股票市场发展与经济增长

从有效需求的角度来看中国股票市场发展与居民消费支出和企业投资支出的关系表现如下:一方面,中国股票市场发展对居民消费支出的作用是极其微弱的;另一方面,股票筹资额与企业投资支出是负相关的。后者与主流观点——筹资额的不断上升直接为企业投资支出提供了资金供给,从而必然刺激企业投资支出的加大——是恰恰矛盾的。因此,中国股市的经济增长推动功能有待开发。

农地制度、地权稳定性与农地使用权市场发育:理论与来自苏浙鲁的经验

农户对地权稳定性的预期越低 ,其租入农地的可能性越小 ,租入农地的面积也越小。土地调整虽然降低了农户对地权稳定性的预期 ,但是它促进了农村劳动力的外出流动 ,增加了农地使用权市场中的供给。在人地矛盾紧张的地区 ,农地供给量的缺乏是农地使用权市场发育的主要障碍。在这些地区 ,土地调整促进了农地使用权市场的发育。本文利用 2 0 0 0年苏浙鲁 1 0 83个农户的调查数据 ,对以上假说进行了验证。
